Percentage of kids living in high poverty neighborhoods:

Understanding the Effects:
Poverty can impede children’s ability to learn and contribute to social, emotional, and behavioral problems. Poverty also can contribute to poor and mental health. Risks are greatest for children who experience poverty when they are young and/or experience deep and persistent poverty. Child poverty is unnecessary and the greatest threat to our future, national, economic and military security.
As early as 24 months, children in low-income families have been found to show lags in cognitive and behavioral development compared to their peers in higher income families.
